Menoth WIP

The humble beginnings of my Menoth collection. Been working on these guys on and off for a while now. The color white has never been easy for me to air brush let alone hand paint so this has really been a learning experience all over again.

I decided to try out Privateer Press's paints with these and I have to say they are great. The liquid pigments thin out very well while still remaining solid enough to require only a coat or two. All of the metallic parts are done with Vallejo's Model air range which are almost as good as some lacquers i've used. 
Obviously an Alclad or Gunze is going to be a bit brighter but for something you can hand paint you really can't complain.



 After several attempts I finally got a nice even white.


 Armor detailed with model air aluminium.


 Further detailed with P3 brass.


 
I varied their colors a bit to give them a more individual look. 


 After black wash with the groundwork laid for cloak highlights.


Brighter gold on the shoulder armor is Gundam Marker Gold.

I'm quite happy with how he came out. 







I still haven't decided whether or not i'm actually going to play this game but I definitely love the figures.

Next time: More infantry a Warcaster and some light 'jacks!

From the Backlog: You got Katoki'd

This kit has been looming in the background of my WiP's for almost a year. Katoki's redesign of The Okawara classic Wing Gundam. Not sure what sense that makes but hey it's Bandai so it doesn't really need to. I've wanted to do a Wing series kit for a while now mostly because it was my gateway into the world of Gundam. Every afternoon at 4:30 my eyes were glued to the tv screen in want of glorious mecha combat. Despite having a poor narrative and a ridiculous amount of recycled stock animation 8 year old me was in love. So, what's the verdict on this kit? Not great unfortunately. The frame is decent enough if a bit skinny but the redesigned rifle does nothing for me. The proportions are strange too making it look more like a giant power ranger than a combat mech. Extreme Squad Lupus

My painted build of the Extreme Squad Lupus conversion for FM barbatos. This was an excellent quality kit. The molding is crisp and details are beautifully rendered in soft, sandable resin. It was de-nubbed easily and with minimal dust by method of wet sanding under running water. I prepared the surface by sanding with 400, then 800, then 1000 grit sanding sponge. Then primed with Mr. Surfacer 1000. There were a few spots that should have been fixed with putty but I missed them at the time. A lesson for next time. Several parts had difficulty retaining paint, chipping down to bare resin after masking several times. (Side skirts, sheathes, and shoulders.) I eventually got paint to stick to these parts using a very thin putty as a tack coat. List of paints used: Gold 1 (light): Gaianotes EX Gold Gold 2: Tamiya TS-23 of which I decanted 40 ml then added 5 drops of clear yellow lacquer (Gaia) Grey 1: NAZCA mechanical surfacer Grey 2: NAZCA super heavy surfacer Metal 1 (grey): Trucolor grap
